EuroLeague: Real Madrid spoils Pablo Laso's return to WiZink Center
Los Blancos finish strong to secure victory
Real Madrid Baloncesto overcame a resilient FC Bayern Munich side to claim a hard-fought win at the WiZink Center on Thursday night, spoiling Pablo Laso's return to the venue as the German club's head coach. Laso, who led Real Madrid to 22 trophies during his 11-year spell with the club, was greeted with a warm reception by the home fans as he made his first appearance at the WiZink Center since his departure in June 2022.
Real Madrid's strong finish
Despite the emotional occasion, Real Madrid started the game slowly and trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half. However, they gradually clawed their way back into the contest and took the lead for the first time with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter. They then held on to their advantage in the final period to secure a 73-88 victory.
Vincent Poirier led the way for Real Madrid with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Guerschon Yabusele added 14 points. For Bayern, Cassius Winston scored a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough to prevent his team from suffering their fifth defeat in the EuroLeague this season.
