Police issue traffic delays for North Coast due to NI International Airshow

Delays along the north coast expected as thousands flock for airshow

The PSNI have warned of severe delays along the north coast this weekend as an estimated 100,000 people head to the Portstewart Strand for the return of the Northern Ireland International Airshow.

The free event, which runs from Friday to Sunday, will feature one of the biggest military and civilian air displays in Europe, with everything from Red Arrows to Spitfires expected to take part.

Road closures and diversions

The PSNI have confirmed that there will be a number of road closures and diversions in place to cope with the increased traffic. These include:

  • The B143 Causeway Coastal Route will be closed from the A2 Coleraine Road to the A29 Bushmills Road from 2pm on Friday until 6pm on Sunday.
  • The A2 Coleraine Road will be closed from the B143 Causeway Coastal Route to the Cloyfin Road from 2pm on Friday until 6pm on Sunday.
  • The Cloyfin Road will be closed from the A2 Coleraine Road to the B143 Causeway Coastal Route from 2pm on Friday until 6pm on Sunday.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible and to use alternative routes. Those who do need to travel through the area should allow for extra time and be prepared for delays.

Public transport

Translink is urging people to use public transport to get to the airshow. There will be a number of special bus services running from towns and cities across Northern Ireland.

Translink has also warned that there will be no parking available at the airshow site. Motorists are being advised to park in designated car parks in Portstewart and walk to the event.
