The NBA Finals: Celtics Dominate Mavericks in Game 1

Celtics Depth Proves Too Much for Dallas

Porziņģis Shines in Return

The Boston Celtics took an early lead in the NBA Finals by dominating the Dallas Mavericks 112-89 in Game 1 on Thursday night. Thanks to a huge return from Kristaps Porziņģis, the Celtics' depth proved to be too much for the Mavericks' Luka-Kyrie duo.

Porziņģis scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in his return from a sprained ankle, while Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 32 points. Derrick White was also a key contributor with 14 points, including a game-changing blocked shot in the fourth quarter.

"I liked the way we handled their run," said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. "They made a run, but we stayed calm and composed and we got the stops we needed."

The Celtics will look to take a 2-0 lead in the series when they host Game 2 on Sunday night. The Mavericks will need to improve their defense if they want to stay in the series.
